Fifth and Sixth Days in Cambodia
It seems yesterday that this trip was begun, but it is already the fourth day in the village. I am writing this email on Monday morning. All students went to school, and the team is beginning the day later than previous days. Everyone is healthy and doing well in ministries.
Saturday was the busiest day in this mission trip. From the morning to the evening, the team spend the whole day serving people in Ant-Hill village: medical(internal medicine and dental) ministry, Bible school, hair cutting, crafts, rise crispy making, etc. The weather was good by God’s grace, however, it was still hat and the team was sweating constantly. When we return to the center, everyone was exhausted from the day of full ministries, but our hearts were filled with the joy from doing the ministry of the gospel.
Our labor of last 7 years in Cambodia was never in vain. God has used NLMA and missionaries to plant the seed of the gospel and water them to grow. Ant-Hill village is where our seminarians Bootty and Sophal recently planted a new center. As we visited houses, we witnessed the fruits of their labors. The gospel penetrates into the hearts, and their sacrifice and services have impacted people to change them.
In order for us to do better joy in the mission, we need to grow. The mission demands continuing sacrifice to us. I hope New Life would grow in 2015 to be equip for better work in mission.
The Lord’s Day worship service at the church in the center was so blessing. Students and seminarians have grown so much spiritually, and 7 students were baptized during the service. During the baptismal interview, they memorized the Ten Commandments and they made us look a shame about the quality of our faith. A student name Rotta he is the one who is being bullied due to his skin conditions. and brother Vuthy challenged village church members not to bully him. After the worship, he called Rotta out and told the members how he is lonely and told the members we should be different from the people in the world with Rotta. Rotta promised to attend the church continuously, and members received him well. She was the girl that Dr. Woon Ha Lee helped last year, and she will be provided with the medicine with the help of Dr. Lee. The communion and the lunch after the service was very blessing time as well.
About 130 children came to the feast at Ant-Hill village. They were the main guests. In Cambodia, children weren’t considered important in the society, however, our special treatments to the children with the feast were such encouragement to them. During the feast, students from Ant-Hill village memorized the Bible verses and students from our center memorized the entire 1 Corinthian chapter 13 in English. As we observe how students are serving one another, we are so challenged to think about how we serve each other. We learn so much from just watching them, and we are so blessed. Pray that the team would keep this experience in their hearts and be the example of servant as they return to the church.
On Monday, the team will visit Missionary Melki’s ministry in the morning. Missionary Melki is NLMA supporting missionary. In the afternoon, we will have the Vacation Bible School with 150 students at the center. We will have crafts, conversational English class, and the bible study. Pray for Monday’s ministries.
We are so thankful for all of your prayers and supports. We have three days of ministries left and we once again covet your “all of you who are sending-missionaries” prayers.
어제 시작한 단기 선교 같은데 벌써 마을 사역 4일 차입니다. 이곳은 지금 월요일 아침입니다. 센터의 학생들이 먼저 학교 간 후, 팀들이 다른 날보다 약간 늦은 일정으로 하루를 시작하고 있습니다. 모두들 건강하게, 사역들 잘 감당하고 있습니다.
어제 센터의 예배는 정말 은혜로웠습니다. 센터 학생들과 신학생들로 드려지는 예배가 벌써 엄청 나게 성장하였고, 어제는 7명의 학생들이 세례를 받았습니다. 세례 문답을 하는데, 십계명도 줄줄외우고 그간 공부한 실력이 우리를 오히려 부끄럽게하였습니다. 예배에 피부병으로 고생하는 로타가 참여하였습니다. 피부 때문에 왕따를 당하는데, 마을 신학생 워티가 로타를 불러내어 우리는 그렇게 하지 말자고 학생들을 도전 하는 장면은 정말 복음의 역사라고 생각합니다. 어떤 학생들을 눈시울을 붉히며 워티의 도전을 받아들였습니다. 좀 멀리 살지만 로타도 계속해서 교회에 나오기로 하였고, 중단 되었던 피부 약도 이운하 형제의 도움으로 앞으로 지속적으로 공급할 수 있을 것 같습니다. 성찬식도 공동체의 식사로 은혜 중 함께 참여하였습니다.
마을 잔치에는 약 130명 정도의 아이들이 개미산 마을에서 참여하였습니다. 그들이 주빈이었습니다. 캄보디아는 어린이들을 많이 중시하지 않는데, 그들을 주빈으로 여기며, 좋은 음식과 함께 그들을 격려하였습니다. 잔치 중에는 개미산 마을 학생들도 그간 암송한 성경 구절을 암송하였고, 우리 센터의 학생들은 고린도전서 13장 전체를 영어로 외우며 발표하였습니다. 그들의 섬김을 보며 팀들이 스스로를 돌아보며 많이 부끄러워하였습니다. 오히려 우리가 배우고, 우리가 더 많이 은혜를 받는 것 같다며 눈시울을 붉히기도 하였습니다. 팀들의 이런 마음이 잘 이어져서 돌아가서도 좋은 섬김으로 본이되는 단원들 될 수 있도록 기도하여 주시기 바랍니다.
오늘은 월요일[2/2/2015]입니다. 오늘은 NLMA가 후원하는 멜키 선교사님 선교지를 돌아보고 올 예정입니다. 오후에는 마을 학생 150명을 상대로 여름 성경 학교, 크래프트 사역을 하고, 연이어 센터에서 공부하는 학생들과 영어 회화, 성경 공부 등으로 그들을 가르치려고 합니다. 오늘 하루도 여러분의 기도 부탁드립니다.
그곳도 곧 예배를 드릴 시간이 되어가는 군요. 쾌적한 환경에서 예배를 드린다는 것이 너무도 큰 축복임을 깨닫습니다. 이곳에서 기도하겠습니다. 몸만 드려지는 예배가 아니라, 마음과 몸이 함께 드려지는 복된 예배, 말씀을 주 안에서 큰 은혜 받는 복된 예배 되기를 기도합니다.
